I write music for live performance by acoustic & electroacoustic ensembles, visual media, and community-engaged art projects. On this about page you'll find upcoming events, some demos, and a link to a contact form. >[!abstract]- >Arie Verheul van de Ven is a composer, improviser, and educator whose work explores improvisation, community music, and building dynamic interactive musical systems. His compositions have been performed internationally by ensembles including [Orkest de Ereprijs](https://www.ereprijs.nl/), the [Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra](https://www.hpo.org/) and the [Cygnus Trio](https://jonathanstuchbery.com/the-cygnus-trio). From 2020–2022, he was composer-in-residence with [Jumblies Theatre](https://jumbliestheatre.org/) & the Gather Round Singers, creating music for In This Moment, a large-scale interdisciplinary community arts project centred on making music collectively while apart. Arie active as a composer for film and media, working on award-winning short films including [No Crying at the Dinner Table](https://vimeo.com/482032869) (2019) and [Nanitic](<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanitic_(film)>) (2022) by director Carol Nguyen. As a violist, he has performed with [Continuum Contemporary Music](https://www.continuummusic.ca/), [NUMUS](https://numus.on.ca/), and the [Opera Forward Festiva](https://www.operaballet.nl/en/opera/dutch-national-opera/opera-forward-festival).
