Over time, your instrument becomes a long-standing commute. It’s space is navigated with complete familiarity. If you’re not careful, you might set off on your journey, and not even notice you’ve been moving until you arrive at your destination - your movements becoming reinforced into muscle memory as they are repeated, and with familiarity it becomes more difficult to pay attention to them.

Navigations is a part of a long journey that I’ve felt is necessary with my instrument. Treating it like a new space to be explored, and searching for ways to interrupt the intimate familiarity I have with the layers of place, time, and memory that live inside my viola.*
